Spokes That Redefine Lightweight and Strength

The Bay Area in California is well known for its successful start-ups and top notch innovation. That’s why we partnered with ARRIS, located in Berkley, CA, to help us create the lightest and strongest spokes in the industry without sacrificing a single watt. The Roval Aero Composite Spokes by Arris are 20% stronger than the steel alternative, saving 1.9g per spoke, resulting in a 103.5g lighter system weight—just from the spokes.

Measure and quantify, it’s what we do. That said, it’s undeniable that the feeling of these speedy, super light wheels is just buttery. Smooth, responsive, and quiet thanks to the intentionally created synergy of the rim and hub with the innovative composite spokes.

Lighter and 5 Seconds Faster

At Specialized, advanced simulations drive our design process, ensuring every product delivers real‑world speed, comfort, and control. During development of the Alpinist CLX III, R&D Engineer Marcel Keyser ran advanced dynamic simulations replicating real-world race conditions, factoring in everything from elevation and slope changes on the Tourmalet to rider power, system weight, aerodynamics, rolling resistance, and drive chain efficiency.

When we simulated Demi’s climb up the Tourmalet, the data was clear: the Alpinist CLX III delivered a 5-second advantage over its predecessor on her effort. Because when every watt matters, we leave nothing to chance.

Alpinist Rim: The Classic That Cuts No Corners.

The Alpinist CLX III utilizes a hooked rim (allowing for real-world riding pressures up to 110psi, if that’s your thing) helping secure tire bead retention and an easier set up and mounting experience than ever before. All in a wheel that almost doubles current industry impact standards while managing to achieve the lightest weight possible.
